P5B Music Motivator
This year P5b have been very lucky to receive weekly visits from our music specialist Miss McTeir. We have built a great knowledge of musical instruments, including how to play different beats and rhythms. Miss McTeir taught our class how to read musical notes to play simple tunes, and now we have began to write our own music!

P5A’s favourite topic this year so far has definitely been Titanic! We have learned about the infamous ship from the moment it was planned to where it lies now at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Have a look below at some of the things we have learned!
Making a life ring for Titanic HQ
Finding Belfast on the map
Learning directions of a ship
Learning the parts of a ship
Sorting Titanic notes under headings
Building our own Titanic
Doing a buoyancy experiment
Researching
Using Titanic HQ
Titanic Museum
Testing the affects of icy water on the body
Learning our names in morse code
Learning how to use a morse code machine
Learning about different parts of the brain and how they control emotions in different situations
Writing our enquiry explaining the reasons why Titanic sank
This has been our favourite topic so far and we have learned loads!

World Book Day and Wall Display Competition
Since the beginning of the New Year, our school has been working on developing a new school library. We have decided to join our infant library with our upper school library and organise all the books into sections.
This will help all of us choose the right books for ourselves during our weekly library slots. Miss McGregor and some of our mums worked very hard to get the new library ready for us to use, especially the mums! A big thank you for revamping our library.
As part of this process, all classes designed a wall display for our many library walls. The library ladies chose their favourite and this class was the winner.
A big congratulations to Primary 5a who were the winners of this competition! They designed a wall display around all of the David Walliams books they have been reading this year.
Their prize it to choose five, brand new books for their class library - no doubt they will choose David Walliams.

Judo
This year we were very lucky to take part in a Judo taster session! The trainer brought all of his equipment into our school and laid it out in our assembly hall. We had an hour slot in the hall, we learned loads of Judo moves and even some key words and phrases. He also told us about local classes that he runs so we can also go outside of school!

Titanic HQ
As part of our Titanic topic, we really wanted to make a learning area that we could use to undertake our research.
Lots of the classes have open areas but we unfortunately don't, instead we cleared out our big cupboard and turned that into a break out learning area!
Shaun named it "Titanic HQ".
We have had so much fun using our new learning area, it has given us just the space we needed to do research and store all of our resources and work.
Take a sneek peak at Titanic HQ below!

Recently P5A earned their next prize from our prize jar. We build the pebbles up every day and when we reach a new level it means we have earned that prize. This prize was a mystery one that Miss Hampson chose so we didn't know what it actually was! We made a big reveal board and every time we followed a class rule or achieved something in class we got to remove a square. Each square revealed a bit of the mystery prize! In the end we discovered the prize was a 'Pizza and Pyjama Party". We got to wear our jammies to school and we also got all different types of pizza to eat! We had lots of fun!
